Freki, by Family x Loyalty Cigars

Following up on my previous review, with the Freki San Andrés by Family x Loyalty Cigars. In my last review, I got into my excitement over these two sticks, so for this one, I'm just going to dive right in.

Cigar: Freki by Family x Loyalty Cigars

Vitola: Toro (6” x 50)

Price: $10.00/stick

Origin: Unknown

Wrapper: Mexican San Andrés
Binder: Criollo 98
Filler: Corojo, Nicaragua, Criollo 98, and Pennsylvania
Body: Medium

Rating (out of 10): 9.9

Appearance:
Freki features a similar band to Geri, this one a silver-on-navy-blue motif, with the same snarling wolf-head, and the cigar name, “Freki.” In all other ways it is identical to its twin brother.

Construction:
Freki features a darker. Toothier wrapper more of a milk chocolate brown, nearly invisible seams, and light veins. The cap is perfectly applied and cuts cleanly.

Aroma:
The barrel smells soft and earthy, with tones of cedar. The foot is somewhat musky, with a hint of cocoa.

First Third:
The cold draw is somewhat sweet in flavor; I get cocoa and a hint of peat, just like I did from Geri.

On lighting, the flavor becomes woody with a touch of roasted almond.

Tiny bit of stiffness to the draw on this one, but it's not hurting anything. Actually, the burn is amazingly even, nearly razor-sharp, with a solid white stack of ash.

This time, it's Rom snuggling up beside me as I review. These two are like my own little Geri and Freki.

The smoke is a nice medium body, and lacks the fiery finish of the Geri.

Second Third:

The burn is still perfect leading into the second third, ore mocha-like now, with a coffee-and-cocoa profile dotted with hints of almond.

Just past the half, a hint of peppery spice pops in on the finish, but not nearly as spicy as the Geri's Habano wrapper lends to that one.

Final Third:
Coffee and cocoa flavor is still prominent in the last third, and the peppery finish takes on a dash of salt, as well.

The smoke is still nice and smooth, flavorful and silky.

Closing Thoughts:
Scoring the same as the Geri Habano, Freki would actually be a nice buildup to its counterpart. I very much enjoyed these cigars, and can't wait to see what future blends these guys release!
